This just demonstrates a lack of knowledge about funding streams.
If a donor decides to give money for locker rooms - or a fundraising effort was made in which BYU told people they were raising money for locker rooms - then any money that was received as a part of that efforts is restricted to be used for locker rooms. Even if BYU wanted to give the money to Chaz, they can't. They have to use it in the way they told the donor they were going to use it.

If donors give money to be used to pay players - then that money can be used for that purpose.

And if some donors give money to be used however BYU wants to use it - then it's unrestricted and could potentially be used for a portion of the locker room and a portion of Chaz's rent.

But without knowing which money and funding is being used for what - it's difficult to say that this is bad math, as he puts it. Just bad understanding.

Kind of like the players who want everyone to get 50% of the revenue their sports generate - without recognizing that many sports generate no revenue. And if the revenue from football and basketball wasn't used to fund those sports, then they wouldn't exist. And if those sports didn't exist - particularly many of the non-revenue women's sports - then title IX would cause football to cease to exist as well. So go ahead and grab half of he revenue of football this year - because it will be gone next year - along with most women's sports and a number of other men's sports - once you get paid.
