Number 1, he was injured to the point of being ineffective, but he wouldn't take himself out of games. We lost several games that year because he sucked when hurt, most notably the Boise game, which we had in the bag with any normal BYU QB, but he failed to finish the game. Number 2, the whole deal between him and Heaps basically ripped the team in half. Riley could have manned up and called out his fanboys to be team guys, not Riley guys. The cohesiveness of the team surely would have led to better play on the field. Instead you had players who would only play hard for their guy, and that hurt in games as well. Riley could have gone down in history as Taysom Lite, but instead all we remember is what should have been that season.
