So i've been wanting to get a handgun for years. Mainly for home defense, but do enjoy shooting and want to get my kids familiar so that they know how to handle a gun and not be scared of them (we will get them into a gun safety class too). 9mm is fine for me I believe.
I know now might not be the best time to get one in terms of availability and cost, but I'm still planning to. I've been to the shooting range to try out several guns, mainly subcompacts. Seems like a million options, but I shot the following based on the recommendations of the guys at the shooting range:
- Glock 19
- Glock 26
- HK VP9
- Sig P320
- Sig P229
- Canik TP9
- Ruger LC9
Any recommendations based on this, or others of similar vein? My favorite of those was the Sig P229. Felt great in my hand, solid. Liked the sights. But what I really liked was the single action / dual action option. So I'm definitely leaning towards that one. Also like options of being able to attach a light, etc. The Glock 26 kept pinching my pinky finger at the magazine every shot...not fun! So definitely staying away from that.
Also, what safe(s) do folks recommend? I'd be looking for one that would probably hold a couple of guns (in case I pick up a second one at some point), that I can store up in our bedroom closet.
Thanks.
