A 500 win-loss record is something we could stomach and understand given the status and fruits of an actual P5 membership, but less so otherwise. And maybe our recruiting paradigm receives an expected P5 boost - however modest given BYU's unique limiting institutional factors - and we can occassionally finish in the top half of the P5 conference.
