The question in my mind is why isn’t a base a safe spot? At least until the “entitled” runner gets to the bag.
In this instance, the defense was given an advantage since catching the ball would have resulted in just one out but a botched catch resulted in two outs.
It’s an extremely rare play but it seems the defense is given an advantage.
