Heaps wasn’t the only promising quarterback who failed to develop under Bronco and his musical chair assistants. It’s rather convenient to blame the players for the ineptitude on offense.
There was obvious discord and extremely poor coaching within the program at times. BYU really screwed up by not hiring QB coaches when Doman and later Detmer took over the offense despite their inexperience.
Things may have turned out very differently in either case.
