It is a long road, you are exposed to very sick and miserable people. The typical situation for a mid thirty year old doctor out of residency is crippling debt and struggling to establish yourself in a practice or job. Then if you're smart you have to convince your wife that you have to take drastic budget cutting measures while making a descent income in order to flip your debt/income situation. Plus, I think the worst feeling I've ever felt in my professional life is being paged in the middle of the night to come into the hospital when you know you wont be sleeping that night.
