Yes, the goal was to facilitate peer-to-peer, verified, non reversible transactions via a distributed ledger design.
But BTC itself wasn’t meant to be a currency. Bitcoin was meant to be a means by which online transactions could occur without financial institution involvement.
It’s far closer to gold or silver or other similar commodities than a currency.
