1. My companion and I were doing a service project at a members home, and it was early in the morning. There was still dew on the trees around the house.

Our project was to do some yardwork, and I had a very dull machete-type tool and I was using it to try to chop off dead leaves from the banana trees.

As I started to chop, The machete did little more than shake the tree and caused the dew to rain down on me. Then suddenly, the water started to burn like crazy. Then I looked down at my arms and realized that I was being bitten all over the place by fire ants. I had pus wounds for weeks and scabs for months. Good times.

2. For my one year anniversary (Humpday), my companion and I decided to get a fresh coconut and celebrate by making coconut milk drinks with sugar and milk to make creamy coconut goodness.

It was twilight and the lighting in our apartment wasn’t great so after we chopped the coconut and poured out the milk and coconut innards into the pitcher, we started adding the other ingredients and I was using a spoon to stir them in to complete our concoction.

After I was stirring, I set the spoon down on the table for about 20 seconds to add another ingredient, and then plunged the spoon back into the pitcher when I noticed some black floaties. Then I noticed that these floaties were actually black ants that had jumped out of nowhere onto the spoon in no time flat. I still have no idea where they came from. There were none on the table that I could see before or after.

Luckily we were 20 something year old young men so we were fine with adding some protein into the drink, and a little texture. It was still delicious. (And not even close to the most unusual thing I ate or drank while living there.)
