yes, they seem to do a lot of things to break up and aerate the soil as they
walk around on their hooves. That allows water to penetrate better in the soil, allows seeds to come closer to the surface and germinate, hinders erosion. They spread seeds and fertilize the soil. I think I remember seeing pictures of whole areas transformed as the animals were allowed to come in, walk around, eat, etc.
