I have been a long time donor but refused to donate this time.
The decision to ask for money while not doing everything possible to supplement the program was not something I felt I could justify supporting.

How many times have we heard that God helps those who help themselves? Or that it is our responsibility to do all we can to take care of ourselves and then allow others to make up the difference?

There were ways to allow at least some fans to attend some sports safely. There were 4-5K at Jazz games. If BYU allowed 4-5K at BYU basketball games, for 10 games, that's 50K tickets sold. At $50 each (which I bet they could get as a "fundraiser" ticket price for a very limited number of tickets), that's 2.5 Million. (And it's not like the NBA and the Jazz are the cutting edge of risk and personal choice.)

But they chose to instead hold out their hand and beg others to support the program instead of doing everything reasonable to support it themselves and asking fans to make up the difference. Hence I did NOT donate this year as I have every other year. I may be in the minority, but I'm sure I'm not completely alone in being frustrated with BYU asking for handouts while not doing their part to the furthest extent possible. If the choice isn't theirs, then make sure their donors know that, so that it doesn't look like you're asking your donors to support your risk averse decision making.
