Long story short:
Pace told no one that he wanted Mitch. He held it to draft day and then told the coach. Fox wanted Watson or not a QB I believe but Pace made the call on mitch without much input from anyone.
Pace didn't even meet with Watson. Not even an interview. Also Pace thought of Mitch someone like himself so he saw him as this plucky fighter.
