Fans were overtop. I had a friend in high school who would say pretty much anything to get into the other teams head. He got a really good player from pine view to flip off the crowd. That was his goal every game to say whatever it took to get a player to acknowledge the fans or fan in particular. It happened in that era all the time. While not anything racial I remember one game that I was playing really well I was inbounding the ball next to this cute little cheerleader and she yelled F you over and over in my ear trying to get in my head. So I don’t doubt what these players said. I never heard it at a jazz game but I always sat high up where people knew the players couldn’t hear them.
