BYU had cut it from 14 to 4 with great defensive adjustments. At that point UCLA calls time out and Pope subs out Lohner and Averette and shifts Harding over to Jaquez and puts Johnson on Juzang. Lohner and Harding had both been fantastic in that run in what they were doing defensively. Averette and Barcello were essentially our only offense. Any hope of winning was lost on that change. BYU had all the momentum and switched out to where UCLA went right back to double digits because they were able to exploit the substitutions.
