Gustav All-American
Twice
First one a little over 2 years old. She was terrific but never got over running away, which was extremely frustrating. Loved to escape and chase squirrels for a while before coming back. That's the downside with adults — harder to train them after they've learned bad behavior and become set in their ways. But, probably potty trained already and may be well-trained already. But well-trained adults don't commonly wind up in shelters. If I had her again I'd try an e-collar to curb that behavior. Zero health problems whatsoever until she was ancient — started struggling with incontinence when she was something like 17.

Second is some kind of lab mix. Got her as a puppy. Puppies are a pain, but if you're willing to put in the time to train them, it makes a huge difference being able to teach them good behavior from the start. No health problems yet. One issue with a mix puppy is that you might not know likely final size. Turned out perfect with this one — 60 lbs or so, which is greater for jogging and playing without being too big or small.

Personally, I wouldn't buy from a breeder unless I specifically needed a hunting dog. If you just want a companion or family dog, seems a waste. And half the claims by breeders seem like exaggerations or lies, with the market going crazy these days. Plenty of great dogs waiting to be adopted. Paying thousands for a whatever doodle seems excessive to me. I would also probably get a puppy again unless I found the right adolescent or adult.
