Yes, it's my preferred method because of convenience.
It tastes about the same to me. You usually have to stir more often when using a camp chef. A lot of people don't like that because it can break up the potatoes if you are not careful.

You can do that, but it's essentially a frying pan with a lid--you don't get the baking action with heat from above
