Look up pythian blight fungus. We thought we had a grub issue earlier this
spring, but it turns out it was this fungus. It had destroyed half of our backyard, but after treating it with anti-fungal stuff and sprinkling some grass seed over the top, it is finally starting to grow back. It was a pain though.

Highly likely it's grubs especially if that area is especially dry. Grubs like dry, sunny areas of lawn. I put down
