Wait, was this a new hire or an ad hoc promotion? If the promo was reduced by
$10K how big was the promo on % terms vs his prior base salary? It wouldn’t surprise me if an ad hoc promo went outside the bounds and the company corrected it. It’s up to him to decide if he is being underpaid. Since he was making significantly less a few weeks ago that may be a challenge.
