You can do that in Utah (not sure if OP is form Utah). I think, technically,
you have to make that decision in February, though. That's when you apply for a waiver to go to a different school. I'd bet, though, you could still attempt to get a waiver later. Problem, this year, is that there's already been tryouts. There's probably some rule about if they have ALREADY tried out, though, so the transfer would have to happen next year.

You can transfer every year, really. You just, per the rules, have to sit out a year of varsity if you transfer after having played varsity. But if a sophomore transfer to a new school that didn't play varsity their freshman year, they could play varsity their sophomore year at the new school.
