It is rare but can happen
Two non-byu stories as I was a Utah undergrad.
I was at the MWC bball tournament in Vegas and watching Utah/Wyoming when a 60+ year old man literally tried to fight me for (near as I can tell) Mormonism and not cheering Wyoming. I could not believe as it was happening and I still don’t know what could have been done to prevent it. I don’t even think it was alcohol related.
I was also at Utah/TCU football at Rice Eccles - I think 2010 - and I’ve never seen visiting fans treated as poorly by the students. It was embarrassing. The student section I was near had gotten so drunk people were being carted out and that led to a lot of the bad behavior and it got worse the more TCU poured it on.

We’ve had it confirmed that the big12 knew BYU added value in 2016 - and that was when OU and UT were included. Imagine
