There is nothing that prohibits nonprofits from participating in activities that
generate revenue. Only question is whether it can be deemed RELATED vs UNRELATED income. You can have as much related income as you can generate. Unrelated income is fine as long as it is not a "substantial" portion of your activities and you have to pay taxes on its net income. The question is raised as they need to qualify for a certain type of channel in order for cable companies to be incentivized to include it in their packages without charging excessive amounts to do so. I do not know what those requirements are and which streaming services follow those rules anymore. They need content too.
