If you think that the podcast morons should be embarrassed (which I agree with you on) and you also think the folks here constantly bringing up a vestigial tail should also be embarrassed, then you're being consistent and I have zero issue with that.

That was actually what the OP was saying and I agreed with him on that; if we're going to get occasionally trashy in what we throw around, we can't be offended by it when others do the same. And that seems like the position you take as well - that a little bit of trash, low-brow humor is part of being a fan, and you're OK both taking it and dishing it out. Great.

My only argument is that people can't have it both ways. We can be offended by it (or find it embarrassing for them, if you prefer that description) or we can take it as part of a rivalry. But I don't love it when we find it embarrassing/offensive when it's directed to us, but hilarious/inconsequential when it's coming from our fanbase.

As to the Ute sympathies, that probably does play into why I get defensive when people here paint an entire fanbase based off a few comments (both having some remaining Ute loyalties and knowing people who are strong Ute fans; similarly I know plenty of Boise St fans who likely never read the comments you were so upset about them not condemning).

I will 100% admit that the Utah fanbase does this more often, but my argument is that such behavior is either "bad" or "not bad". If it's "not bad", then we should stop excoriating the Utes for it, regardless of how much they do it.

If it's "bad", then we shouldn't be justifying it by arguing that they do it more. Even if they're worse than we are, we should be doing what we can to reduce objectively "bad" fan behavior, so that we can actually be a better fanbase, rather than just good by comparison.
