Not good but fewer firms are up or out these days.
Equity partners need quality people to run their deals and are happy to have a "special counsel" or non-equity partner do that. So they pay these guys $500k-$1m to be service partners. They can do the work and not have to worry about client development, and the equity partners can do more and more deals because they have people who can run them.
