Shawn Bradley also indirectly contributed to that mess
Reid lost out on some big-time LDS front court players in the early 90's because those recruits thought that Shawn Bradley would be playing, and they didn't want to be second fiddle. When he unexpectedly declared early for the draft before he even returned home from his mission in '93, Reid was left with a gaping hole in his recruiting pipeline, and he never quite recovered from that.
