He got BYU pointed in the right direction and made changes to the program that reassured the higher-ups there was still a lot of value in it. He was kind of the exact opposite of Crowton, he took more disciplined approach whereas Crowton let things get out of control a little bit with a few scandals.
He also did a great thing by recognizing BYU's football heritage and getting rid of those horrible navy and tan uniforms with the weird Y on the helmet.
But in the end things became a little stagnant, he kind of outlived his usefulness so everyone knew it was time for both parties to move on.
