I guess we have a little different definition of leaving the cupboards bare.
Some of the players left on the roster when Kalani took over:
An NFL quarterback and possibly the best overall athlete BYU has ever had in Taysom Hill
The all-time leading rusher and NFL RB in Jamaal Williams
The current best linebacker in the NFL in Fred Warner
A quarterback who although didn't turn out like we hoped was still co-champ of the elite 11, a highly rated recruit to take over for Taysom
Multiple NFL linebackers in Taki Taki, Langi, and the aforementioned Warner
A future NFL lineman in Brady Christensen
Three future NFL DB's in Zayne Anderson, Kai Nacua, and Michael Davis
Freshman All-american and future NFL TE Matt Bushman
Possible future NFL lineman James Empey
And possibly more that I couldn't think of off the top of my head.
To say that he left the cupboards bare when there were at least 10 future NFL players on the roster when he left is absurd.
