Sounds like crappy bosses. I would definitely inform a dude underneath me if I
had concerns he was going against his own policy and the precedent that might set. Especially if I had supported that policy previously and it was out in public. Pretty obvious example of “hey I supported you (gave you leeway) on this when you decided to implement it. It’s your baby. Why do you want to make an exception now and are you aware what it could lead to?”
