I think that is the goal. Slow them down, then try to stop then once they get to the 25 and have a shorter field.
WIth a shorter field comes less area to defend so time to be more aggressive. It is 100% the design of hte D. And why we all hate it so much.

Wazzu we dropped 8 more than any other game all year. Expect the same v. UVa. It is smart defense for their scheme.
