In 2013 my wife and kids went see BYU play Loyola in Chicago (maybe it was Lewis)—we live in the suburbs. Incredibly small gym. Anyway, they had a pep band made up of maybe seven brass and percussion instruments positioned right off the service line. When BYU trounced them, the band stopped playing and their repeated refrain, over and over again, became: “you’re still Mormon,” as in you may have beat us but you’re still losers. The presumed faculty advisor who engaged them generally throughout their performance did nothing when the ugly chant started. In his defense, he may not have gotten it. Sad..
