The challenge is viability as a university while also being Church owned.
Elder Holland has already suggested that the current BoT may rather have BYU lose accreditation than have to allow certain behaviors or speech.

This is entirely their prerogative and I respect that. Compromising strongly held morals is not a weakness.

However, I would rather that my kids attend an accredited university than attend unaccredited BYU-Bible College. This is why I wonder how viable BYU being Church owned will be long term. At some point, the Church may have to decide whether to remain the owner of BYU or shift its narrative on certain views.
