West/North: BYU, Oklahoma St, Texas Tech, Iowa St, Kansas, Kansas St, Oklahoma
South/East: Cincy, UCF, WVU, Baylor, Houston, TCU, Texas
But the real excitement is what happens Texas and Oklahoma leave - divisions are broken into 4 pods
West: BYU, Oklahoma St, Texas Tech
South: Baylor, Houston, TCU
North: Iowa St, Kansas, Kansas St
East: Cincy, UCF, WVU
Every year, you have 3 games OOC and 8 scheduled games in-conference. You play your pod and the members of two other pods, with the 'missed' pod rotating. So if BYU skipped the East pod one year, they'd miss the South pod the next year, and then the North pod the year after.
But the real fun starts with the 9th conference game. This is the last game of the season and the #X team in each pod plays the #X team in the pod they missed. So if the above was the order of finish in each pod and West was opposite East in this year, the 9th game would be
West #1 BYU vs East #1 Cincy
South #1 Baylor vs North #1 Iowa St
West #2 Ok St vs East #2 UCF
South #2 Houston vs North #2 Kansas
West #3 Texas Tech vs East #3 WVU
South #3 TCU vs North #3 Kansas St
This would accomplish two important things -
- Would serve as a de-facto mini playoff with the two #1 seeds advancing to the conference championship game
- Would provide another relatiely easier game for lesser teams to try to get bowl-eligible
Most important would be factor #1 though, as it would make for a huge draw that last week of the season prior to the conference championship.
