Yes. I think it's valuable time to give kids experience with other non-in-car
distractions. In other words, when learning to drive, kids have to process a lot separately. Over time, like we adults, they learn to sub-conscientiously process many/most of those factors. That movement from conscious to subconscious can only be done by actually being the driver and driving. Friends and such are addition factors (and distractions). I'd rather my kids introduce friends to the equation after many of the other factors have been moved from the conscious to the subconscious.
