popped up near my home, called The Byte Shop. They had computers in there that regular people could use, along with dot matrix printers. Me and my friends (we were probably 10-12) would go in there and stand in awe of these green eyed monsters and what they could do. They could print a dozen pages of symbols on a paper roll that looked like Snoopy on his doghouse when strung like a banner!
We wanted turns playing the silly games on them, but had no money to buy time. The owner devised a plan (looking back, I'm sure it was a joke between him and his buddies), he gave us a bottle of rubbing alcohol and a rag and told us to clean each linoleum tile square on the floor and he'd give us some time on the computers.
We did.
