I really like this, but I do see a potential negative for the conference

when a pod has no good team. You could potentially have a 6-5 team that wins a pod and then upsets a 10-1 team in the pod "playoff". The best teams wouldn't end up in the conference championship game as often.

But I still like it a lot. Makes for more exciting games. And usually helps the top teams strength of schedule too. But it could hurt the conference's chances at playoff births some years. I could see some people balking at it because of that.
