Most companies will pay you a higher base pay than anyone makes. And if you’re one of the good sales reps, you make double of everyone. I’d say only about 10% sales reps make the crazy kind of money (like 400k and higher). Also your hours are super flexible. Most managers don’t care when you work, they just care you hit numbers. So hit your numbers and do what you want.
Cons: your job security isn’t very good. Even if you are the best rep one year, the next year that slate is whipped clean and you can lose your job for under performance. Also, it can be frustrating having your territory slashed as a company grows. You a lot of times can make less and less money if your company over hires sales people (which is very common).
I’ve done sales for my entire career and so far it’s been great. Pros to me way outweigh the cons.
