matters alot. I mean its good input that current players liked Lee Cummard. that is a positive factor for him.
but when they are looking to make a long term hire, input from current players is going to have a really small influence on the decision. As it should. Would be shortsighted to give huge weight to opinions of current players who did not participate in interviews, have for the most part not been involved in big hiring decisions in their lives, and will be graduated and gone in a season or two.
On the other hand, it is somewhat unfair for college athletes to get a new coach imposed on them when they committed and played for a different coach. It happens all the time when coaches switch jobs or get fired.
The transfer portal flexibility now gives more freedom to the players in this regard. So if they don't click with the new coach and need to transfer, that is totally fair. What would not be fair is to have the current players make the hiring decision.
