I'm not as concerned about retaining current players as I am about future recruiting. Opposing coaches are going to put doubts in the minds of recruits: "Whiting has no college coaching experience. She is coming from a small high school, so she has no idea how to run a college program." My guess is Whiting weathers this fine. She wouldn't have gotten the hire unless she had a very impressive interview. Hopefully, she brings her daughter. My guess is BYU recruits itself more with women's sports than men's. That means it has less to do with a particular coach than the school culture. Playing in the Big 12 will help. I'm not saying this isn't an odd hire, especially for a high school coach in her 40s. She needs to get good assistants that have her back and she will be fine.
