They said nobody would be laid off. About a week later they called me in, had suddenly found a process I wasn’t following and were going to investigate, and shortly after I was fired for cause. The reason was incredibly dubious, and it was two or three days before I was due for a large promotion to a higher role.

Just a despicable thing to do. I let it go and moved on. It was a large national company and I’m pretty sure I wasn’t about to win any wrongful termination disputes. But it set me back years in my career. Still just a bit miffed about it all.
