Bob Thompson said motivating matchups create value. Oregon, Washington, Utah, and ASU all can create compelling matchups against Baylor, Okie State, Cincinnati, BYU, etc. Conference additions are not simply linear Algebra; when done right they can have a synergetic effect that creates exponential value. We all hate Utah but it is a great program that can create compelling matchups that draw national attention. Those that claim market overlap don’t have a clue what they are talking about. That applies to conference networks and cable subscriptions. National matchups transcend that and draw millions more viewers which means ad space gets more lucrative for national networks which in turn makes TV contracts more valuable.
