Make sure you have a clear plan to clear your house.
My plan looks something like this. My wife goes and gets our daughter and takes her into her closet. My portion of the plan is to clear and check the home. In my plan I include my walking path to clear the house in the most effective way but also so I can control what I have against my back to make sure if there is any gun fire nothings goes towards my daughters closet.
