Lbs are able to drop into those passing lanes more if the running game isn’t working which makes it a lot more difficult to hit the TE over the middle, plus mitigates the effectiveness of play action pass. Maybe byu could have added a couple more specific plays for Holker (screen, etc.), but Oregon’s and Baylor’s ability and speed was eating those up so they probably wouldn’t have worked. He was also being asked to help some on protections. Ironically I think this week could have been a better matchup for him.
One thing I will say about Holker is I didn’t see as much ability to just go up and body or high point a ball, especially on those sideline fades. He didn’t look good on those. Maybe byu could have tried to box him up over the middle more? He does have good hands.
