I might agree with you that the last decade matters, but there are a few
problems with using Coot20's logic. First, he cherry picked the best decade of Utah St. football ever, which also include our worst season of football in 30-40 years (2017). If we are looking at the last 10 games, it is BYU winning 7-3.
His point would probably still stand if the trajectory of the programs was trending the same way, but BYU is headed to the Big 12 and has been ranked in the top 25 many weeks in the last few three years and Utah St. has looked bad the last three years and lost to Weber St. this year.
Last, most fans memories are longer than just 2010. In my lifetime the teams are 23-5. If we are looking at only the most recent history there is a much stronger argument that Boise is our rival than Utah St. is.
On a more personal note, I didn't even know Utah St. considered us a rival until my little sister was attending Utah St, she came home one day and started trash talking BYU (where I was attending at the time), and I was confused.

Not a rivalry from an ND perspective, not at all. It is an annual game and both teams have respect for one another.
