My boss, who was a serious yewt head, promised me a raise if I met these goals he had set for me... mind you the goals were going to be really hard to obtain but I agreed to it and I created a pretty structured plan to meet them. I told my wife that I was going to be working longer hours to meet these goals...
A year later, I met every single goal, and actually crushed a few of them... I had everything I did extremely detailed and handed it to him in my evaluation. He kind of flipped through my documentation and then turned around, threw it in the trash and told me that he believed I lied about what I had accomplished and told me I was in jeopardy of being fired because I was too focused on meeting the goals.
The next year he wrote me up 2 times for some of the most ridiculous stuff ever. I filed a complaint to HR which saved me for about a year. Then in 2005 he had me coming into work at 4am to help our India consultants and after like the 4th week of doing this I realized that I was basically training my replacement.... told my wife that we just need to bite the bullet and move to Texas... So we got the house ready to sell... We put the house up for sale, we were moving regardless of me getting laid off or not. 1 week after we put the house up for sale, I got laid off. He called me into his office and he gave me the papers and he said, "I've been looking forward to this for so long". He asked me if I had anything to say to him, and told me that what I say will effect my severance package... I told him thank you and I was good. 1 week later we sold our house... 1 month later we moved to Texas... and 17 years later I'm now being promoted in my department with a great company.
And if anyone knows an Alan T Smith up in Ogden... tell him hi for me.
