Everyone knew that there were massive defensive issues every year, except the COVID year...
Kalani KNEW there were defensive problems last year... he took all his chips of momentum and bet it on the fact that there were injuries and he believed that having 9 starters return on defense, as well as a bunch of experienced depth returning would help cover up the defensive issues this year.

It was already going to be a tough couple of years in the BIG12... it was painfully obvious that we weren't going to walk in and kick the doors in like TCU kind of did their first year. And Kalani choose to literally make it worse by not making the necessary changes when they should have been made.

I'll never forget when my dad gave me my first car, he told me I would be responsible for fixing any issues that happened on the vehicle. And then he told me, the moment you see an issue get it fixed immediately. Because if you don't, it dominos into other issues and before you know it you don't have a car anymore because 1 simple fix from the start has turned into too many issues to afford to fix later on. This is EXACTLY what Kalani has done to the program by not fixing the problem at the end of last season...

Now we have recruiting issues... we are losing a BYU favored recruit that is a 4* to possibly Utah, his brother who is on the team is now probably going to transfer out because some coaches wife had felt the need to lose it over a seat. Our recruiting right now is an absolute mess. OL was/is an issue. Special teams became such a massive issue were we couldn't even attempt a 20 yard field goal this year, plus we had a kickoff returned for a TD in our first game of the season against one of the top kick returners in the country because our Special Teams coach though it was a good idea to short kick it to him. We are probably going to see a massive number of transfers out of the program, and honestly this is probably the best news out there... but then you look at the recruiting issues and it appears we are just going to back fill it with 1 and done transfers.

All of this could have been prevented... 100% of it... but it wasn't because nepotism was put on the highest stage over the program itself.
