It's crazy to me that a person can be forever cancelled because of a one time
indiscretion in which nobody actually suffered any harm.

It's also crazy that the level of the punishment depends on which guys have your back and whether your employer is a liberal sympathizer. For example:

Scalley's indiscretion was much worse than what Pugh did. Not only did Scalley never lose his job due to him being KWhitt's right hand man, KWhitt could reasonably assume that the local liberal media would eventually move on.

Pugh wasn't nearly as close to his HC, and Baylor isn't exactly a bastion of liberalism. Therefore he gets cancelled. And BYU can't touch him. Why? Because BYU has a "troubled history of racism." Nevermind that EVERY university has a "troubled history of racism," because most of the other universities out there are liberal bastions and part of the club.

If you don't believe that last part, consider that BYU is still suffering the consequences of a proven false accusation of poor fan behavior, meanwhile Ohio State was barely in the news with their credible accusation of an athlete hurling the most forbidden word. Nor will there be articles written detailing Ohio State's troubled history of racism, nor how current minority students still experience racism.
