If you are an undefeated P5 you have access to the playoff in the current system (I know it’s not a guarantee, but it’s pretty close). Therefore 65 teams have access. Is recruiting level among those 65 teams? Absolutely not even though they have a roughly equal chance.

It won’t change in a 12 team format. In fact it could be worse.

We think Ohio St, Alabama, Georgia and Clemson make the playoff every year, but they actually do not. However, lowering the bar to a 12 team format means they will make it every year or close to it.

If you are a recruit are you picking Kentucky who might make the playoff or Alabama who will? Are you picking Purdue who might make it or Ohio St who will?

The handful of elite schools will still dominate both recruiting and the postseason format.
