Kalani isn't Harbaugh, Swinney, Sabin, or Dykes. Stop thinking he is. That isn't his pedigree nor who he is as a person.
Kalani has overall responsibility for the entire football program. That also includes things that are not on the field and that the normal fan will know nothing about.

At the end of the day, the buck stops with him. Or as we would say in the military, we are responsible for "everything the unit (or organization) does or fails to do."

He doesn't get a pass here, nobody is saying that. But it absolutely makes sense that he will have other people on his staff oversee the day-to-day functions of certain areas. That is what CEOs do. Delegate to your competent lieutenants to get the job done.

Kalani sets the vision, attitude, and culture and his coaches implement those things. They likely run their overall philosophy and schemes by Kalani to get approval, but Kalani isn't going to micromanage what they do. It just isn't who he is.

Could it get him fired, sure it could. But what you do see is that he is learning and settling in more and more to his role as HC and CEO of the football program.

I am not ready to give up on Kalani and there are certainly signs that are concerning, but we've had a fantastic last couple years and now changes need to be made.
