Inheritance is never mentioned in these conversations. Being given a house or
enough money for one is a huge leg up for those who inherit and their children who benefit from the extra money in the household. Even a much smaller chunk due to inheritance being split over several children is big.
Edit: ditto "inheriting" professional contacts or a place to stay as an adult to save up for a down payment. Both those who have it and those who don't think their situation is normal and don't factor it in to their financial situation.
