Pack check is a necessity. I agree with others that smart people make boneheaded decisions. Had one kid show up with a massive duffel bag filled with only a t-shirt, a pair of jeans, cotton ankle socks and a sleeping bag. The bag was rated to 40 below so he thought that was all the gear he needed...
