He taught scout leaders how to survive Klondike camp outs:
1) Bring good equipment.
2) If you can’t bring good equipment bring twice as much crappy equipment. Double cold sleeping bags to increase the R value.
3) Adult men, use a pee bottle to keep from getting cold out of your sleeping bag. Women, sorry, you are out of luck.
4) Don’t cook pancakes on Winter camp outs, they are just hard sticky frisbees at that temperature. Eggs are better.
5) Keep everyone well fed and hydrated.
6) Make sure there are activities that have movement. For example: Sitting around a hole fishing needs to be combined with an active game of broomball to keep kids warm and happy.
7) Learn to build snow caves.
